Purging data is the process of removing all data from a report, but leaving the structure of the report.
Is there any significant benefits of purging data prior on saving the report?
One of the few reasons that I can think of are;
- If the data is confidential, it would be better to purge to avoid other users from seeing the data if they are not authorized.
- If there’s a need to upgrade to newer version of BO, it would be faster as the file-size of the reports are smaller when data is purged. It will also contribute to the factor of faster report editing.
- Use less disk space, smaller filestore etc.
- Quicker to promote between environments.
- If you wish to amend a report some versions can error, on running, when the report contains data and has the underlying queries changed.
- Last but not least, users could be potentially looking at old data.
